Walking Backwards

Thrilling experiences from a rather uneventful life.

What a day we've had. I was hoping that by only scheduling two things today and nothing tomorrow that I would have a restful, un-stressful weekend after my crazy first week of school/nico preschool. But no, not really. It is all about my car. This will be the sixth time I have taken it in for the same problem and they are completely unable to fix it. Now, unfortunately, that does not keep them from leaving us in the waiting room for just under six hours. Six hours with a cranky four year-old and nothing in walking distance, but several bad restaurants and a Walgreen's pharmacy. This time I had such hope, though, because they said they fixed it (and tested it), but as we pulled up to our friend's house for dinner, the problem resurfaced again. I guess we just have a lemon. Oh great masses, take my advice and never buy a Saturn.

We also spent the day eating very poorly for us and are now feeling the effects of a day of sugar-filled sustenance. We did have black bean and avocado tacos for lunch, but they were on white flour tortillas and everything was way too salty. Oh, and we ate out weight in corn chips. I forgot our snack bag, so we hit the vending machine (and Walgreen's) for junk food. I drank diet coke all day because I was cranky and tired and I hoped the caffeine would help. I couldn't bring myself to drink the car dealership's coffee that had been sitting there for over three hours. I had lots of dark chocolate and no protein. Very bad. So now I am still cranky and tired and a little nauseous. I'm hoping to write out my menu tonight for next week, so I can feel a little better. I can focus on what I should eat rather than what I ate today.

Because I always like to get myself way in over my head, I have decided to start work on yet another quilt while I await the discovery of the perfect border fabric for my last quilt. I'm starting on a baby quilt for a friend who is having a little boy in July. I've decided to use these fabrics from the stash, I'll probably have to get something new for the backing since my solids are running a bit low.

And in case you're going to bring up the compact argument against my buying any new fabric, it is my one allowance, but I only buy fabric for specific projects rather than fabrics that I enjoy but that I have no idea what I'll use them for. So, allowable. Since we're trying to make most of our gifts this year, it would be a nightmare to try and scrounge up enough of a specific type of fabric to be usable.

Speaking of compacting, we're doing really well right now. I think it is because we just have not had the time to go anywhere that we would have temptation. Sadly, we've replaced our savings with convenience foods, but that will get better soon; as soon as our schedule evens out. Today, we went to a toy store with a train table as a reward to Nicholas for not running out on us while we waited for the car, and there was so much stuff I wanted, but we left without buying anything. Yay us! I almost had myself convinced to buy a package of boxed Valentine's Day cards for the valentine exchange at Nicholas' school, but I put them back. Even though they were from Where the Wild Things Are, even then! We'll be able to make them home with the piles of art supplies I already have. I think we'll do some scratch art ones. That should be fun.

Now, I'm off to clear up my sewing room for all the fun adventures that place has in store. Right now it isn't looking habitable, but I have to make it ready for a possible guest at the end of March :). If you're reading sweetie, I'll call you when I'm not on the verge of a nervous breakdown from dealing with troubles all day.
